matchPhone
Adding matchPhone
You can add matchPhone either by initiating a matchPhone call (Talk & Text) from a member’s profile or by using the Phonebook link on your Home page. This will walk you through the process of subscribing to and paying for matchPhone.
Signing up for this service includes verifying your phone number and whether your phone is text-enabled. This is only done once, unless you change your number on file (via matchPhone Account Settings). The verification process includes a quick automated call to your phone, so have it on hand when you are setting up your matchPhone phone settings.
Changing your Phone Number
You can change your matchPhone phone number at any time, and it won't disrupt your current connections. For example, if you’re expecting a call from someone you’re particularly interested in, you may choose to direct matchPhone to your home number in the morning, to your work number during the day, and to a friend’s landline in the evening. Just be certain to change the number listed prior to each phone call.
To change the phone number associated with matchPhone:
- Click on the gear icon in the top navigation bar.
- Click on the matchPhone link.
- Enter or edit the phone number where you would like to receive calls and follow the verification steps.
Adding matchPhone
In order to sign up for matchPhone and begin sending talk requests, you need to have an active account with a current paid subscription. And naturally, our members want to know a little bit about someone before they talk to them on the phone, so we currently require that you have a completed profile before you send a matchPhone request.
Receiving a matchPhone Request
In order to receive a request from a matchPhone user, all you need is a paid subscription. It isn't required that you pay extra in order to respond to a matchPhone request. But you will need the add-on to your subscription if you want to initiate any matchPhone conversations yourself.

Phone Requirements
Almost any phone line, mobile or otherwise, will work for matchPhone, as long as it has a Caller ID function. The exception is that some office lines cannot be used because the caller ID associated with them is the main office line, and matchPhone must be able to recognize your personal number in order to properly connect you.
SMS Requirements
To send and receive SMS messages through matchPhone, your registered phone number should be a mobile phone. We do not charge extra for SMS messaging, but your carrier's standard text messaging rates apply. Contact your carrier for details on those rates.
Location Requirement
Currently, matchPhone is not available to Match.com members in Alaska, Hawaii, or Canada.
Making a matchPhone Connection
Once you’re a matchPhone subscriber, simply invite someone to a matchPhone connection using the "Talk & Text" button on his or her profile page, and a request will be sent. Once this request is accepted, a phone number will be generated that either of you can use to reach the other.
Taking a call
When you receive a matchPhone phone call, you're free to choose: a) to answer your phone and accept the call using our automated system that responds when you pick up; b) to answer your phone and decline the call using our automated system, which will notify the caller that you are not available and will give them a chance to leave you a message; or c) to not answer your phone, which will do the same thing as if you had declined the call using the automated system.
Texting
If your phone and your matchPhone connection's phone are both SMS text-enabled, you'll have the option to send your connection text messages the same way as you would any of your friends, except that using your connection's matchPhone number, your own phone number will remain hidden. The first time you set up a matchPhone connection, you'll be prompted to verify that your phone is text-enabled. You can send up to 300 SMS messages per month. Text messages are only stored on your phone; they are not recorded anywhere on Match. Also, remember that although texting is included in the matchPhone premium feature, your phone carrier may still charge you for texting.
Voicemail
When a matchPhone connection calls and you're not available, they'll be given a chance to leave you a voicemail. This voicemail is in the matchPhone system - it does not use your personal voicemail system or greetings. You can listen to your voicemail from your Phonebook page (click on Phonebook on the left side of your home page and choose Voicemail in the left-hand menu). Voicemail is stored on Match for 30 days.
Organizing Your Contacts
If you're using a mobile phone, or if your landline has this capability, you can organize multiple matchPhone connections by placing your matchPhone numbers along with the names of your matchPhone connections in your Contact list as you would any other phone number. Caller ID is required to use the service, and each matchPhone connection receives a unique number, so you’ll be able to identify matchPhone callers as you would any other incoming caller.
Removing a matchPhone Connection
Inevitably, things won't work out with each person you talk to. When it's time to move on, you can close out a matchPhone connection by accessing the matchPhone phonebook and clicking on the "X" next to the user that you would like to remove from your connections. When you receive a confirmation pop-up, click on "Yes, Close It" to completely remove the individual from your matchPhone connections.
matchPhone Privacy
The whole idea behind matchPhone is to allow you to connect with your match by phone without sharing your phone number. In order to accomplish this, we hide the personal phone numbers of both parties before connecting the call. Since this information is never shared, your phone number remains private. As an additional precaution, we use our matchPhone voicemail system rather than forwarding calls to your personal voicemail in case you have identifying information in your voicemail message.
