Private Mode

What is Private Mode?

Private Mode lets you stay in control of who can view your profile. When it’s turned on, only members you choose to contact will be able to see you.

You can purchase Private Mode when you subscribe, or add it later at a prorated price.

While using Private Mode, you’ll see messages like “They can/can’t see you” on other members’ profiles. You can adjust visibility for that member at any time by selecting Unblock or Hide and Block.
 

Changing Your Visibility Settings

All members have access to two visibility options:

  • Visible — Any member can view your profile
     
  • Hidden — Your profile is not shown to anyone

If you’ve purchased Private Mode, you’ll be able to make your profile Private — Only members you’ve contacted can view your profile. 

Your changes go into effect immediately.

On Desktop

  1. Click your profile photo in the navigation bar.
     
  2. Select Profile Visibility.
     
  3. Choose Visible, Hidden, or Choose who sees you (Private Mode) (if purchased).
     

On Mobile Web

  1. Tap the Profile icon.
     
  2. Tap the Gear icon.
     
  3. Choose Visible, Hidden, or Choose who sees you (Private Mode) (if purchased).
     

On the Match App

  1. Tap the Profile icon.
     
  2. Tap the Gear icon.
     
  3. Choose Visible, Hidden, or Choose who sees you (Private Mode) (if purchased).
     

If I discontinue Private Mode, am I visible?

Yes. Once Private Mode is turned off, your profile becomes visible again. Members whose profiles you viewed while in Private Mode will now see your visit in their Who’s Viewed Me list.

Am I visible to others in Private Mode?

Existing matches

If you communicated with a member before purchasing Private Mode, they can still see your profile. Nothing changes for existing conversations.

New matches

To appear visible to someone new while in Private Mode, you need to send a communication. Once you do:

  • They’ll immediately be able to view your profile
     
  • Their profile will show “He/She can see you” under their photo
     

What type of communication makes you visible to others in Private Mode?

Any of the following will make you visible to the member:

  • Sending a Message
     
  • Sending a Like
     
  • Sending a Super Like
     

Once you reach out, they can view your full profile and respond.
